Advent Week 1: Hope (Nov. 29, 2026)
Sunday, November 29, 2026 · Reflection by Faithful Herald Staff
The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined. … For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder.
— Isaiah 9:2, 6 (KJV)
Advent begins in the dark. Isaiah wrote to a people who knew war, exile and fear, and he promised them light before they could see it. Hope in Scripture is not wishful thinking; it is confidence in what God has already said He will do.
Whatever the headlines bring this season, the first candle reminds us that the story does not end in darkness. "Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing" (Romans 15:13).
Prayer
Lord, teach us to wait with hope this Advent, trusting Your promises more than our circumstances. Amen.
